Thomas wrote: The idea of mass anonymous death, the thought that so many people could be wiped out for no reason, in some ways threatened one’s own sense of existence, one’s own soul. By letting avoidance hold back grief, we allow mass anonymous death to have no reason, compromising our very own existence.
