This is based on Freud’s famous anxiety-dream case study, the Wolfman. A Russian political refugee escaped to German during the Russian Revolution. He is haunted by a recurring dream of white wolves watching him. Contemporary scholar, Alfred Lopez describes this “as whiteness watching the dreamer, and the dreamer’s anxiety at finding himself under the intent gaze (and implict menace, and judgement) of that whiteness.” In Germany at that time there was growing cultural logistics of nationalism and racial purity. This piece is dedicated to those that are missing or who have disappeared from daily life under the intent gaze (and implicit menace, and judgment) of whiteness and hegemonic power.
